Wonder State Bug R Bird Lure
The Wonder State Bug R Bird Lure is a great miscellaneous antique fishing lure. The lure was made in Helena Arkansas, Circa 1948. The lure is pretty scarce to find and the box even more so, as the company was in business for only a single year. The box states on a side label; You’ll find a lot of Satisfaction in Using W.S.P Co. Lures You’ll Like their Life Like Action which Fools the Fish and Pleases the Fisherman.
The antique lure itself resembles a bowling pin wooden painted body with 2 tufts of hair in almost the same manner Creek Chub used on the Ding Bat. The lure was made in three different sizes. The antique lure has a large front bill where the line tie and leader is attached, and a surface type hardware on the belly and Bell on the rear holding the two weedless treble hooks. On some of the lure the name is stenciled into the back. There was a plastic version as well although it never made it into full production.
